A Creative Collab: Marté Egele & Antidote Street’s Stunning 3-Scarf Collection

Seven years ago, a collaboration blossomed between us, Marté Egele—a said creative force in leather goods and scarf design—and Antidote Street, a beloved UK-based brand specializing in Afro and multi-textured hair care products. This unique partnership brought forth three bold scarf designs named Atlantis, Gatsby, and Paris.
Inspired by the iconic films The Great Gatsby and Atlantis: The Lost Empire, as well as my love for the vibrant city of Paris, these designs embodied a beautiful blend of art, history, and personal inspiration.
While studying at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, the designer delved deep into art history and was particularly captivated by the Roaring 20's which also falls in the Art Deco era. The Great Gatsby, with its rich visuals, geometric forms, and opulent spirit, became a cornerstone of my inspiration for this collection. Art Deco’s unique blend of styles which were partly gotten from Egyptian motifs to ancient classical influences—represents a time of prosperity and progress, elements we aimed to capture in the Gatsby scarf.

The Atlantis design, however, took a different turn. The Atlantean's tattoos and mystical, ocean-inspired designs in Atlantis: The Lost Empire stirred my imagination. In many African cultures, tattoos and markings go beyond mere decoration; they tell stories of heritage, tribal lineage, and societal status. Growing up in different part of Nigeria, the designer witnessed how these marks connect people to their roots, creativity, and, in some cases, served as symbols of beauty or protective emblems for children. Atlantis channels this legacy through intricate patterns that evoke a connection to both water and cultural identity.

Lastly, Paris was a personal tribute to a city which the designer have loved for years crafted with free-flowing lines and an elegance that reflects Parisian landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Musée du Louvre. With bold, captivating colors and recurring lines that nod to the city’s architecture, the Paris scarf embodies the city’s allure and my deep appreciation for its cultural and artistic landscape.

These scarves were designed to make a statement with vibrant colors and bold patterns, empowering wearers to stand out confidently. For both Marte Egele and Antidote Street, this collaboration was an opportunity to celebrate diverse histories, artistic influences, and the vibrancy of fashion, creating timeless pieces that speak to heritage, creativity, and style.
